Adieu Gary Cooper
Published in Paperback by French & European Pubns (01 October, 1991)
Author: Romain Gary
Average review score:

A different type of life style
An interesting tale about an American guy who is too tired of American type of life style and chose to live in the wilderness of Alpine Mountains and mainly deal with nature. This story shows how different some people's life styles and beliefs could be and the fact that they still seem to be the happiest people in the world. This is also the sad story of a little boy who once wanted to be a cowboy like Gary Cooper and never had the chance to make it in a world that is too cruel and sophisticated to underestand the kids' type of love and passion.

The Adventures of Spider: West African Folk Tales

Author: Joyce Cooper Arkhurst
Average review score:

This is a great book for children and adult storytellers
The author has presented a simple, easy to read format which will be easy for children to read, understand, and most important, ENJOY! The humor is wonderful. The main character, Spider, will be easily recognizable to those children already familiar with the Anansi stories. Additionally, I am a teacher and have introduced oral storytelling into my second grade classroom. These stories are simple, rich and easy to learn for those who may be interested in becoming a storyteller themselves! It's a thoroughly enjoyable and wonderful book.

Air-conditioning America: Engineers and the Controlled Environment, 1900-1960
Published in Paperback by Johns Hopkins Univ Pr (August, 2002)
Author: Gail Cooper
Average review score:

Great writing and fresh view on the personal environment
Ms Cooper has a great writing style which lends itself perfectly to the understanding of the uninitiated and untechnical layman of this topic. The unexpectedly fresh view into how to see the spaces in which we live made this book a special page-turner which can amuse and delight almost anybody. I highly recommend this book to those who onlt see the spaces we live and work in as shells and the unseen workings of the air-conditioning systems as only on or off.

Almostly Murder ... With Pets
Published in Paperback by Padlock Mystery Pr (30 November, 2002)
Authors: The Cozy Crime Writers, M. E. Cooper, Audrey Eggers, Deborah Bouziden, Sharon K. Hudgins, Sara Sue Hoklotubbe, Rey Hanan, Moira K. Wiley, Marion Moore Hill, and Judith Sexton
Average review score:

Very Clever!!
This anthology by a group of Oklahoma mystery writers cleverly uses animals to help solve the various crimes. For example, Moira K. Wiley's story, "Old Mack Donald's Ghost", features an emu. One cautionary note--husbands and boyfriends don't fare too well in some of these tales so all of you men be sure to check your egos at the door!!

Along the Seashore (Wild Wonders Series , Vol 3)
Published in Paperback by Roberts Rinehart Pub (May, 2000)
Authors: Ann Cooper and Dorothy Emerling
Average review score:

Learning in a story format
My children (4 & 5) enjoyed reading a section of this book each day. Each animal is introduced through a brief story which captivates their hearts and minds. Following the story are various facts which provide a springboard for conversation and further reading. It can be read again and again. Since the selected animals are ones you may encounter on a beach trip, they can observe what they have read about.

American Democrat and Other Political Writings
Published in Hardcover by Gateway Editions (01 March, 2001)
Authors: James Fenimore Cooper, John Willson, and Bradley J. Birzer
Average review score:

A critique of culture, politics and society in early America
Whereas, Alexis de Tocqueville offers his perspective on America as an outside observer, the literary genius James Fenimore Cooper offers his assessment of culture, politics and society in 19th century America. He doesn't hold democracy to be sacrosanct like we do today, but rather like any other system of government with its advantages and disadvantages. His look at the nature of liberty and its relation with equality is particularly intriguing.

He is cognizant of the dangers posed to American self-government, which values legal equality. Equality, is a virtue, only insofar as it pertains to equal rights and equality before the law. Any effort at establishing equality of outcome is tantamount to tyranny and opposed to liberty. Cooper illustrates the precarious relationship between liberty and equality. Unless, tradition, custom, the rule of law and the Constitution are revered and upheld- the American Polity could easily collapse into majoritarian tyranny under a demagogue.

One gains an appreciation of the system of government established by the American founding fathers after reading this book... They established a constitutionally-limited federal republic, with limits not only on the power of government, but with limits placed on the power of majority rule, so as to limit the fundamental role of government to protecting the rights of its citizens. This constitutional republic sought to balance out monarchial, democratic, and aristocratic elements...

Antique & Collectible Dollhouses and their Furnishings
A True Gem for the Vintage Dollhouse enthusiast. Tons of clear pictures as with all of Diane Zilners books, which show we collectors and Antique Dealers alike the true identities of the wonderfully expressive imaginations of miniature makers from the past.

Apache Administrator's Handbook
Published in Paperback by SAMS (12 March, 2002)
Authors: Rich Bowen, Daniel Lopez, Daniel Lopez Ridruejo, Allan Liska, Richard Cooper Bowen, and Daniel Lopez Ridruejo
Average review score:

Lots Of Good Information
Knowing little about web servers and nothing about Apache, I was looking for some detailed help installing and configuring Apache. The online docs were no help. I needed something that would explain, at a basic level, what needed to be done to get Apache going.

I found this book very helpful in setting up my server. It covered everything about installing and configuring Apache. Config files were explained in detail. Integration with perl and php were wll covered. I also found the chapters on Security and logging helpful as well.

This book is geared toward Unix servers but also contains specific information for the Win32 crowd. I highly recommend this book.
